Outdoor Fall Prep for Renters: Small Steps to Avoid Big Problems

Outdoor Fall Prep for Renters: Small Steps to Avoid Big Problems

Fall doesn’t just happen indoors—your outdoor spaces need attention too. Even if you don’t have full yard responsibilities, a few simple steps can help protect your rental and keep your space looking good.

1. Clear Leaves from Patios, Porches, and Walkways

Wet leaves can become slippery and messy. Sweep them away regularly to prevent accidents and keep your entryway inviting.

2. Bring in or Cover Outdoor Furniture

Patio furniture, planters, and decorations should be stored or covered before heavy rain or frost arrives. This prevents damage and saves you from replacing items in spring.

3. Keep Drains & Gutters Clear (if it’s your responsibility)

Leaves can block outdoor drains and gutters, leading to water pooling or damage. If it’s part of your rental agreement, take a few minutes to clear them. If not, let your landlord know if you notice clogs.

4. Prep Outdoor Plants

Bring in potted plants that can’t handle cold weather. For larger outdoor plants, add covers or blankets on frosty nights.

Bottom Line:
Taking care of your outdoor space in the fall helps avoid big issues later. A little prevention now means less stress (and fewer repairs) when winter arrives.
